Carders? This may be a dim question, so please excuse me. I'm being gifted a drop spindle to replace the one DH made me sell. Do I need to buy carders for roving, or does some roving already come carded? Just wondering if the carders are useful things to get, and if so, where can I buy some? There's not much choice on ebay or etsy.

I think roving is all ready to spin so you don't need a carder unless you're preparing uncarded fleece. If you buy 'tops', roving or 'slivers' you can spin straight from that I think!!

If you spin from roving or top (like fat roving) then you don't need carders unless or until you want to
a) buy "raw" fleece to prepare yourself
b) blend your own colours and textures from a mixture of fibres.
Lots of people never get carders at all.

I have carders but I only use them for mixing solid colour rovings together So I would say carders are something you can probably do without for the time beimg Guess how often mine are used

I'll put them on my Christmas list then I think Janice, as I probably will stick to variagated roving at the mo anyway.
