Can I mention the 'C' word??I am a bit short of cash this year with me not working so am planning on a few knitted Christmas pressies - not something I do normally cos of the stress But am going to start VERY soon so it's less stressful and I wondered if anyone fancied starting early too
I'm making at least 2 pairs of socks with the little gift bags to put them in with a little bag of lavender to put in the sock drawer afterwards like I did 2 years ago - you can see that one here - Rav link . The bag seemed to take as long as the socks last time

I'll join in! there may be socks, scarves and little stuff. Maybe a cardy for Millie...who knows small crimbly things seem like a good idea right now

I'll join in. I have the yarn waiting for 2 scarves and 2 pairs of mittens, and I like the idea of little gift bags to match the socks.

I'm making socks for MIL and Aunt-in-law with the little bags and possibly some more for my Mum (tho not sure she has worn the last pair ) or maybe an alpaca scarf with this alpaca yarn here - think it was Milly I got a lacy scarf pattern with it.

Yep, i'm in, i have started one pair of socks already and as soon as my book arrives i'll be casting on a hat for Niecey too
Not sure how many other knitted pressies there will be, i might just whip up some Cranfords and Fetchings for special friends

Cranfords would make lovely pressies wouldn't they

There are some nice free patterns on The Knitting Hut site including a little teddy bear with jumper - very easy to knit. And a mobile phone cosy. Apparently you can get a pair of socks, the gift bag AND this mobile phone cosy out of one ball of Opal/Trekking etc There's a nice scarf too.
Knitting Hut patterns here .

That's a very handy link, thanks Ali. I shall make some teddies in pure wool for babies i know, they'll be able to chew on them without Mums worrying about them eating acrylic

I have a few skeins of yarn from the Alpaca Spinner but I haven't knit anything with it yet - it's too nice! I think I had yarn from Freya, Lucy, Puddles and Rosalinde.

Nope! No way! Not a chance! Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without last minute panics, forgotten gifts and sewing up the last 3 gifts at 2am on Christmas morning. But I'll join in around October!!

Oooh I might have Freya too - I have some in a creamy beige and a chestnut brown as you say it's too gorgeous but I think I got 2 skeins of one so might spare my Mum one skein if she promises to wear it
Noo I know what you mean We'll see you later then

yeah, I think given the lack of finances round here, I'd better join in too. I've already knit a couple of laceweight garter stitch scarves, which have turned out lovely and light. I might have to keep them though.
MIL wants some handspun, so I suppose that will do for my mum as well. so, just the kids to knit for now - any suggestions?

I've already made one thing - a scarf in Posh Lei for my friend.
I am thinking about making a forest canopy shawl for my Line Manager - not because I am a creep but she has given me a gift for the last 8 years and I have never given her anything, So I want to make something a bit special. Got to find some lovely yarn now

I imagine DD won't mind another scarf CJ Not sure about DS tho - would he wear a beany made with handspun?
Jo that sounds a lovely idea!!

I don't usually make Christmas presents because I loathe knitting to a deadline, but this year I think my Dad deserves some socks, so that's what he's getting!
I'm using the classic sock pattern from 2 at a time socks, but I'm rebelling and knitting them one at a time (I may come to regret this ) in Rico Superba Print yarn.

yep, I've already done two pink scarves for DD.
DS has been asking for a blue scarf, so I think I might use the colinette dK in my stash on rav for him.

Oh yes...I have to join too!!
But I hope it won't make me feel guilty with all the things lots of you have made/started already. I've got lots of family to knit for and I'm not at all sure what to make yet -except quite a few will be getting socks. And I like the idea of a little bag and lavender sachet with them.

probablyjane is reworking the Summer Pick n Mix sock pattern for small personages at the moment, she's looking at how to make them fit growing feet, skinny feet, different toes etc.
Would they do for the kids?

I will be trying to knit as much as possible this year, and I think I will have to start pretty soon if I am going to get it all done. I have planned (so far!)
3 jumpers or cardigans for my friends children
4-5 pairs of hand warmers
2 celtic knot scarfs
A jumper for my sister
4 mens hats
I know for a fact I probably won't get half of it done, but will give it a try. Money is going to be a bit tight for us now with the shop closing, even if I get morrisons it could be the end of november before I get another wage packet.

I know! it didn't seem quite so much until I wrote it down. I think I will start with the smallest first and go from there. Mum said she would help out with the scarfs but she isn't familer with lace, but is happy to make croc ones and seafoam like she did last year

Oh yes, that reminds me! I also have two scarves to knit, the Dragon one from Morehouse that i snaffled off Murdo
One in the yarn that comes with the kit and one in something different as they are for brothers and they will fight if they are the same

Well I've cast on for my first pressie sock - was difficult finding something I already had that would suit 2 very conservative older ladies everything was too bright or too pink or too handwash but finally found some tweedy Trekking in a dark burgundy colour for one of them

Well I'm in as well I suppose. I already have 2 pairs of socks on the go. One I have started the second one and one I haven't. My SIL loved her wrist warmers so much last year that I have to make more this year.

I'm making a Clapotis in Noro sock for my MIL, Lady Eleanor for my Step Mum in Silk Garden & am planning a Cowl for my SIL. I may also make MIL a pair of socks for her birthday in January but I'm not sure she wears the pair I made her this year so need to find out first.

I wish I had recipients who would appreciate knitted gifts - but since they don't, they can put up with boring old smellies or similar and lump it
The only thing I will do is knit mini socks, and attach them to cards,( so they can be taken off and used as tree ornaments another year,) for my friends from the Lace group who understand how nice handmade things are.
