By jove, i think i got it!I finished spinning the bit of pencil roving i nabbed from Sprite yesterday and then wanted to do some more so i broke the alpaca out that i got at Ally Pally and it was different but i think it came out alright. It's looser and more liable to come apart, but once i caught on i pulled it less and it came apart less
I'm going to try plying the two spun bits together i think, just because i want to try plying
Photos? Oh, go on then This is the BFL fluffy (buried underneath - silly me!) and the merino pencil roving, i'll go and grab the alpaca in a minute

Very impressive And scrummy edible colours too

Yes, i think the colours are probably the best bit about the spinning
It's certainly not the even weight or the tension
Still, i have the technique a bit more sorted now and that's progress

I think it must be much harder than on a wheel. It really does look good!!

Hey, well done you! I spun another 'length' tonight and managed to do it without any breakage!

That looks great Fran. Looking forward to seeing your plied yarn. I've started spinning the blue pencil roving I got on Saturday. I find spinning from pencil roving a lot more difficult for some reason. It's a gorgeos blue colour and it's spinning up lovely. I've had my eye on it for a while and finally gave in on Saturday. Got some other roving on the way from scotland too. Can't remember what I ordered though. Also got some silk hankies and some undyed silk fibre on the way form Fyberspates to spin and some llama and merino/tencel fibre on teh way from the US. So lots of spinning over the next few days unless I decide to use some of it for felting.

I haven't plied it yet cos i am too scared so i have two loo rolls with their bits of spun fluff on and i keep stroking them
The spindle is free but i don't think any of the rovings i have are any good for spinning and i am reluctant to use the alpaca cos it's so yummy i'd like to actually make something good enough to knit with it, you know?
I will have a splurge when natalie comes home from her holiday
