Blocking wiresI'm thinking about getting these:

I've almost finished my shoalwater shawl (which is for a birthday pressie) and I looked at this blocking wire 'kit' a while ago. Wondering if any of you have got it and is it worth the £25?

I've kept looking and wondering the same thing.
They are also the only UK supplier that I have found so far.

Yeah, I haven't found anything else in the UK either. I'm a bit worried incase I don't knit many / any other shawl type things - I think I will. Hmmm!

I bought these a couple of weeks ago and used them for the first time last night! They are brilliant. You need to take your tiime threading your knitting on but it is well worth the effort. I would highly recommend them!

I've had these for a while now and they are well worth getting. They make life so much easier when you are blocking lace (or anything else).

My friend Jo has bought some from there...she was going to use them last night for her Heartstrings stole she finished...I'm sure she'll be about later to let you know how she got on!

I got some blocking wires a while ago from KnitPicks and they're brilliant. Makes blocking so mucheasier and quicker. Used them a couple of days ago to block my new scarf and it only took a few minutes to pin it out. So much easier to make sure the shawl or scarf is the same width all the way down etc.

I bought the blocking wires from Heirloom Knitting last spring and I recommend them! I hated blocking, but it's so much easier and faster with wires. If you knit a lot of lace, they're worth of buying.

MIne were a Christmas present and have been used quite a bit and do help to get things straight... I would recommend them...

I bought some this year too, but still not got round to doing my blocking. They look as though they'll be really useful.

Hubby brought me some welding rods home from work.
They are virtually the same thing. The ones he brought me were stainless steel and about 3mm round. He brought me 3 foot long ones but I imagine you can get longer and probably cheaper than actual blocking wires.

My DH did the same, He got me 5 of them, I used them to block MS3 and a stole I knitted ages ago and they were great. Now going to reblock my shawls as I dont think I did it firmly enough when just using pins.

I've considered using welding wires but too scared to go into the hardware store and ask! There's a great shop in Cambridge (independently owned) that I think would sell them. The are more tools/hardware than DIY and sell alot of the professional stuff. I might have to get Karl to come in with me next week as I have the Clementine Shawlette to block for a wedding in a couple of weeks.

I bought the Heirloom ones some time ago and I am so pleased I did. It really makes blocking a piece of cake!
