blanket kits

I am putting together some crochet blanket kits using BFL aran. I will be putting in 50 g of each colour, 50g will make a really good size square possibly 2. how many colours do you think will be best. I was thinking about 5 colours so 250g which would be enough for a good size baby blanket, cushion cover, does that sound about right?

Oooh Chrissy how exciting! Basically for a cushion you need a square number, so 4, 9, 16 depending on size, whereas for a baby blanket you need a rectangle, so could maybe think of it as two cushion covers IYSWIM.
So taking your example, 250g should give 10 squares, enough for a square cushoin cover with 9 squares or a baby blanket which is 5 by 2 squares....and I think a limited number of colours is good so as to keep a clear coour scheme - so 5 colours sounds about right.

I think it sounds great, I want one NOW!!!! oops, sorry, Embarassed that just slipped out LOL

Thanks a lot, I have made one square up going off 6 rounds so you could do two rounds per colour using a 5mm hook, and going off that you would have enough for a 60x60cm square blanket using 9 squares with 1 square left and plenty left for extras and sewing up. I will be pricing them up later ect but think they will be £21 per kit but of course the kits will be interchangeable and can very easily be added on to. I am very pleased with the colours so far, I will post pics when they are ready.

That sounds lovely! It would help if I could crochet of course, but it does sound great, now who NEEDS a baby blanket. Very Happy

They sound great, can't wait to see pictures. I might even be tempted to pick up the hook and have a proper go. I picked up a twilley how to crochet booklet in my lys 2 months ago but havn't even opened the cover yet!

you don't have to be able to crochet, there is enough in these packs to knit a reasonable blanket aswell, lol
pics later I hope

I believe I read somewhere that crochet takes approx 1/3 more yarn than knitting, so a knitted one may be a bit bigger even??? (No idea if I've remembered that right..... was it in the Happy Hooker???)

CHrissy is the BFL washable or handwash only?
