Bamboo lace needlesI had a real nightmare with Shoalwater today, partly due to the fact that I ended up spending most of my time frogging (it was quiet, I was concentrating - must be pmt ). I use Addi Bamboo circs as I cannot stand using metal pins (I've tried, they set my teeth on edge and make knitting very unpleasant). Usually, I love the Addi bamboos - smooth, quite pointy for bamboo. However, there is a small groove where the cable joins the pin - its smooth, doesn't catch, but the little groove means that some of the stitches get stuck in there and it makes it hard to move the row along. I ended up having to really pull it one time and was frightened I would break the yarn. Does anyone have any experience of another bamboo circ brand, that is preferrably minus the groove? (lol - that sounds funny, like some sort of club speak!)
PS: Said in the politest possible way - please dont suggest I try Addi Turbos or metal pins. I just cannot use metal pins

Hmmm, thanks Gil! I've had a look though and wonder what this means "have a swivel joint between the end of the needle and the nylon cord to stop the cord twisting up" - I wonder if this means there will be a little groove like the Addis, and therefore somewhere for the yarn to get stuck. Would be interested to hear if anyone else has used them as they are quite pricey

I really feel for you Piglottie.
The 4mm circular that I used for the F.C. shawl did that (it didn't break any stitches, but sometimes felt as if it might).
That is because I've had the needle for yonks and it didn't even occur to me that there might be a problem or a better way
I've since bought a new one, but they it still snags a bit (I bought that one before the thread about lace needles, so I'm a bit wiser now).
I was just wondering whether it might be possible to get casein circulars?

Thanks Gil! I would still love to hear from anyone who has used the Crystal Palace bamboo circs for lace and how easily the yarn slid over the join.

I've used Crystal Palce Bamboo circs -2.25 and 2.75 but...I'm here in France and they are at home in England. We get back on 17th so if you're not sorted out, I'll post again. But I can remember that I was very pleased, I liked the swivelling, I can't remember if there was a groove and as it would have been for socks on one circ I think I would have noticed if there had been one. And they were v. pointy

Piglottie I would hate you to be relying on my memory!! It's not very good.
If you could wait until we get home - Sunday 18th - I'll be able to tell you better.
If you wanted you could borrow one and see for yourself. You'd have it by Tues 20th, you could try it out and then post it backto me. They're very expensive if they aren't what you want.
I went for them because they were the only 2.25 and 2.75 I could find at the time.

I'm using 3mm Clover bamboo circs for a silk lace scarf at the moment and have the ame problem. It's really annoying me so switched to 3mm straights.

Alice - that would be so kind of you if you don't mind. I was a bit worried about buying the CP and not liking them (as they are expensive). I can wait as I'm going to do what Anni has done and knit on straights for now so please dont rush Thank you so much!
