Apres Surf Hoodie-alongI'm going to make this very soon and I know Loobyj is also planning to cast on in the near future. It's from the new Interweave Knits, you can see it HERE. Pretty, eh?
It's 4 ply, and it's actually knitted back and forth in usual sweater pieces and sewn up, so I can't see any reason why it couldn't be done on straights rather than circs I'm going to try it with some Trekking XXL that I have in stash
Anyone else up for joining in?

I was only looking at this pattern last night - I bought some 4ply at Wonderwool and have gone off the pattern I was going to knit with it and really like this. As long as I've got enough yardage, I'll be in.

It's a lovely pattern but sadly not "me". I'm getting better at knowing what will and won't work for me.

Mine was dispatched this morning!
I know what you mean Snail - I'm wondering quite how long it's going to take me, dread to think how many stitches I'll have to cast on....
Still, FC assures me that 23 weeks is plenty of time to knit it in.
I ordered some Patons cotton in Limestone to do mine in. As you would guess, it's a stone colour

woo, potentially a few of us up for this one What a shame about your yarn Linda, perhaps you could make it without the hood or make the sleeves shorter or something?
I ignored everything else I have OTN and cast mine on last night
Mine's quite a coloured sock yarn, and I'm not yet entirely convinced this is the right pattern for it but we shall see. It's a seasidey coloured yarn I bought at the GK day last year and I started a Shoalwater in it but I cleared out a load of UFOs recently and decided the Shoalwater really wasn't for me and frogged it. So, knitting from stash

Sounds a pretty colour - look forward to progress piccies

here ya go. Never one to hang around when I'm inspired by a new project ... it's just finishing them off that seems to be my problem
It looks a bit crinkley and uneven on the stocking stitch because it's the ball that got frogged, but it'll smooth out with blocking.
Took me an age to understand the provisional cast on! Was getting REALLY frustrated with it but then suddenly it clicked and I got the hang of it

Very nice Colours are lovely - very seasidey
I'm just about to cast on - not feeling over confident about the cast on method, so I'm glad to hear it clicked for you!

Hmm. Well the cast on beat me. Don't know if it's because I'm a leftie, but I really couldn't get the hang of it at all. So, I just did a cable cast on and will leave it as a rolled edge instead of the i-cord edge.
Last night I started my first pattern repeat - but must've got carried away with the gardens at Chelsea, cos when I couldn't make the fifth row work, I realised I'd done the first two knit rows COMPLETELY wrong .
So, I've frogged back two rows and still have another two to frog
Onwards and upwards as they say. Quite pleased with the way the yarn's knitting up though - feels quite light and drapey.

oh no! How's it going now looby? Hope the pattern's all working out OK for you? Any chance of a pic ....?
I haven't been able to do anything on mine since I last posted up about it, but hopefully I'll get a bit of time to work on it soon.

I have some of the yarn used in this pattern - the RYC Cashcotton 4 Ply - that I was going to put up for sale next month maybe but if anyone is wanting it sooner let me know I have 9 balls of the beige (Cork) and about 8 or 9 balls I think of the dusky lilac (Chintz). It's lovely and soft and gorgeous to knit with. Only selling cos I went a bit mad and bought loads - sooo unlike me
I still have some left for me tho but still waiting for my pattern.
ETA the lilac has now been sold Just the beigey one left now.

Well.
One whole pattern repeat done.
And I frogged every single knit row of it
But it's sorted now and I'm quite happy with it. The pattern shows up well on the yarn. So, it's all systems go now.
Ahh pics. Well.
I know how to take pictures with the new camera. But, I don't know how to get them off the camera and onto the puter. And although I've still got the old camera, I can't find the software and I need to reload it after our hard drive rebuild.
This is why my February sock yarn challenge still hasn't made it on to the forum.
Please don't hold your breath (unless a blue tinge to your complexion is the look you're after) - but I'll try.

oh looby, sounds like it's been a right struggle! Glad you've got it sorted now though and you like how it's coming out.
Come on, get the camera/puter thing sorted out - pics are definitely needed Or you'll be solely responsible for my blue-tinged complexion ........ no, LOL, can't hold my breath any longer ... breathe out, breath in, ah that's better

Tell you what - I'm having a right mare with this
Thought I'd got it cracked, finished the waist decreases and was on the straight bit when I looked back admiringly at my work
Well I still don't know what I did - but it involves tinking back 14+ rows
Still I shall persevere - I still really like the pattern and the yarn, and the way it looks when it's knitted up properly....
lj

FatCat

oh no! You poor thing But I admire your perseverance, hope all that tinking isn't too awful.
I haven't touched mine for a week or so, really need to get on with it

Well, I priced up the RYC Cashcotton for this, decided that it would be too expensive and vaguely thought of looking for a sub before forgetting all about it, when a special offer email arrived from Janette. With five shades of Cashcotton 4ply on it, at $50 for 10 balls. I'm sure you can guess the rest
It should be here on Tuesday, I may well be casting on then - just need to finish my socks before then. I went for the Chartreuse colour, not dissimilar to the colour in the mag.

Well, my yarn for this arrived last week (Cashcotton 4ply), and I swatched on my usual Aero straights at 3.25mm, in st st and pattern (being good for once!) I was a bit tight, and the needles were just a bit too slippery for the yarn, so I ordered a pair of KP Harmony tips in 3.5mm from Get Knitted - they arrived yesterday and I cast on straight away.
I've started with a sleeve, just to double check my tension (too lazy to do another swatch!) and it's going fine, I've done the st st and two pattern repeats, and it looks lovely. I'm using stitch markers until I get the pattern off pat. I did a crochet cast on, I tried the recommended one for about a minute then gave up.
The cashcotton is absolutely gorgeous, it's soft and strong, and I love knitting with it - although I keep stopping to stroke it And I love the Harmony tips, they're the first ones I've tried, probably not the last though. Oh the expense, I thought I had enough needles, but evidently not.

Tell me Helen, what are the sleeve shapings like for this sweater? Are they just dropped or shoulder? I don't think I could cope with shaping the lace pattern.
Yours is looking really super, very professional. I'm looking forward to seeing some more progress pics.

The sleeves are set in, I think it'll be fairly easy to do - the repeat is eight stitches, and it's possible to do half a repeat, so if you've less than eight stitches but more than four you can do half a repeat, otherwise you just do stocking stitch to the edge. Well, that's what I've been doing for the sleeve increases, and it seems to be working, so I assume it'll work in reverse when I get to the sleeve top....
I've done nine lace repeats now, about another four to go before I start the sleeve top shaping.

That looks lovely Haven't touched mine for a couple of weeks tho

I've just finished the first sleeve, I've pinned it out to show how I did the decreases, it seems to have worked okay.
Just the back, the front, another sleeve and the hood to go.... I'm enjoying it, but I'm planning to watch lots of tennis over the next couple of weeks, so this could be neglected - I need something with miles of plain stocking stitch to do whilst watching something that needs as much concentration as tennis. I've got a couple of odd socks which need pairs, they could be just the thing.

Lovely MM - the lace shows off beautifully in that colour!
I know what you mean about the tennis - I've got a plain stocking stitch cardi that'll be my Wimbledon mainstay Then it'll be back to the hoodie - maybe...
lj
|
minniemoll

Mine's coming alone, despite the tennis - I've done both sleeves now, and two and a bit pattern repeats of the back. There's a photo on my Ravelry page. Next week I'm really going to crack on with it - if I don't I could lose interest, there's so much still to do.

Is anyone else still knitting this? I've been plodding away at it, although I have managed to start and finish a jumper in Summer Tweed since I started the hoodie (that was my Wimbledon knit).
I finished the front earlier this week, so just the hood and the edges (and the sewing up!) to go now - I had a slight setback when I realised that the hood is on smaller needles, so I had to order a Harmony circ from GK. Oh the hardship.
I'm going to try and get on with the hood tonight, hopefully it won't take too long!

Can't see the pics at work MM, but well done for getting this far
I'm still going with mine, and still intend to finish it for Australia (11 weeks this coming Sunday). I hadn't touched it since the beginning of June, but got it back out last week. I'm alternating it with a plain cardi I'm doing - depending on whether I need to concentrate or not

I used stitchmarkers right the way through, which helped enormously with keeping the pattern right. Every so often I'd put some extra yarn overs in by mistake, but I just dropped them on the next knit row when I realised, and they don't show.
