Am I on a slippery slope? My DS has given me a voucher for two hours 1:1 spinning tuition.
Dare I redeem it do you think??

I think you dare, but you know what will happen

Well I haven't rung yet to arrange anything, but I am getting quite excited by the idea.
OK I'll admit it, I looked at spinning wheels on a couple of websites too, but the technical details sounded like double Dutch

Yes they look doubledutch till you actually sit in front of one, then it all falls into place and before you know it you are spinning and you will be asking your DS to contribute towards your new wheel Enjoy

You could start with a spindle... you'd learn all the "hand" stuff, the drafting etc and then when you get a wheel you'd just need to do the feet.
Much easier than learning both at once.

I agree with n. I started with a spindle. Go for it iwth the spinning tuition. All those gorgeous fibers yo ucan buy. An excuse for an entire new stash.

The new stash is what I'm afraid of

Ah but in terms of hours of pleasure per £, fibre stash is much more economical!

One of my friends described me as a five bobbin (as opposed to five star) enabler...

Of course you could always give it to me if you aren't sure
Seriously, what a wonderful gift, yes, definitely redeem it, and what a lovely DS you have. Don't forget to tell us all about your lesson.

Did I tell you about the giant knitting needles the same lovely DS gave me for Christmas....?

You really have got him well trained.
Were they great big giant ones, that you need loads of yarn held together to knit with, and have you tried them?
|
Glynis

Not quite the great big giant ones really, more the huge ones at 4 feet long
He gave me two skeins of very thick rope-like yarn (a little bit like pencil roving) to use, but I've not tried them out, and I really should, shouldn't I

well, I disagree. I tried with a spindle first - hated it intensely, so got a wheel straight away.

After sitting in the naughty corner in my house for a while that very same spindle has today decided to play properly CJ and we have come to a reasonably happy understanding

glad you got it sorted I'm far too impatient for it!! lol

I just slipped a bit further down the slope by going to the local Spinners Weavers and Dyers group last night

I only got going with my spindle after learning on the wheel and now I love both equally.
A fibre stash also takes up more space than a yarn stash so you will feel like a fibre millionaire very quickly!
