Advertising on blogs

Blogger have an option where you can display advertising on your blog and supposedly get paid for it. Does anyone do this and is it worth it?
Glynis

I personally shy away from places with ads on.
I read this board on the main machine which doesn't display any of the ads, but if I use the laptop they show up and irritate me no end.
Auntie Noo

I have it on mine, but it's not really worth it Anni, think I've amassed about USD15 over 6 months or so!!!!! - Not exactly a good way to make a living!!
jacquie

I haven't any experience of using Adsense on a blog, but I would like to clarify why we have ads on here.

The ads on this board allow us to have a free service. The guys who run the hosting do a spectacular job at providing support (they answer even the most pathetic questions within the hour, whereas some companies never answer at all.) They work hard on improvements and add-ons to the basic board software (such as the portals on the left hand side and the extra "view posts since last visit" links, and there are many others that we have no use for). They have made it so we get the minimum of advertising possible, and because the ads are specifically targeted to the post content there may be a few that you will actually want to click on.

I was quite shocked the first time I posted and ads actually appeared in my post, but I have got used to it now and they are the ones that get my attention most and the ones I am most likely to click on for some reason.
Glynis

Hi Jacquie, I hope my comment didn't offend. I understand that the board has to pay its way.

I wondered the same thing Anni, I see them on other blogs. I rarely click on them so hadn't bothered to set it up. Smile

I have to agree with everything Jacquie said. Ads irritate me too, but the guy who runs the forum set up (his name is Martin BTW), is lovely, and it's his business, so he has to make a living, and wheras we post because we love it here, he has to pay the mortgage.
I'm sure no-one thought you were being unfair Glynis, so don't worry.

Thanks for all the replies. Don't thin kI'll bother with ads on my blog then.

Jacqui, the 'posts since last visit' etc used ot show up on my screen and I found it great but I've lost it now. Can I get it back somehow? Remember I am a techno numptie. I really, really have to clue. I've just spent ages trying to get the printer working. I changed the mouse over form the lap top to our old computer a few days ago as the old computer mouse wasn't working and I must have unplugged osmethign to do with the printer but I can't work out what. And I'm desperate to print out one finished pattern and two that I'm currentl working on. It's so annoying. Confused Mad

You need to go into your profile and change your board style to either myff_craftythreadsnyarns1 (without the lists on the left hand side and no annoying horizontal scrolling on smaller screen sizes) or myff_craftythreadsnyarns2(with the lists on the left hand side). The choice is yours and you won't break anything by swapping from one to the other and back again.

With these styles you also get the option on your profile to add your birthday.
