A Thousand Splendid Suns

Just finished reading this second (Richard and Judy recommends) book by Khaled Houssini - I posted about The Kite Runner recently, which was excellent.

Now this second book of his is - how can I put it - a most gripping, harrowing and beautiful story of the friendship between 2 Afghan women who are married to the same man.

I won't say too much, but lets just say I am still thinking about it this morning and I finished it last night.  I think it will stay in my head for a long time.

I think the Kite Runner pips it to the post, but it really is imo a very very good book Cool

Anyone else read it?

Oh, Jo - I can't put this down!

Its terrible isnt it?  I mean, not being able to put it down, not the book itself Laughing

I have got a thing about books at the moment.  I just finished one a couple of days ago by Nicci Gerrard called Things We Know That Were True and I can honestly say I am still thinking about it 2 days later, and I would be quite happy to go back to the beginning and start it all over again Rolling Eyes

There are so many great authors around Very Happy

I know just what you mean Jo. There are some REALLY good reads at the moment.

Excellent book, I finished it a couple of weeks ago and I could still repeat the story in depth to you all.

Oh! I have finished this now and it's one of those reads that has had a profound effect on me, that will stay with me for a long long time. It was harrowing, uplifting, tragic, inspirational, upsetting even at times as the subject matter was often difficult. It was worth every tear.

You read books like this every now and then don't you.

I just hope he continues to write more books - this one and the Kite Runner were works of art.  As a male writer I think he really has captured his feminine side iykwim Smile
Aknita

Absolutely!
