24 in 2009-alongI've just joined the 24 in 2009 knitalong on Ravelry where I've pledged to try to knit 24 items in 2009 and half of these are to be knitted from stash.
I knitted 16 items in 2008, six of which were garments for me or mum and so this shouldn't be too difficult considering I now have an awful lot more time on my hands than in the past four or five years
Anyone care to join me?

I'm doing the NaKniSweMoDo where you try to knit 12 sweaters in a year so dont know if I can manage 12 other items too. Most of these will be stash too.
|
terri
|
I think I'll manage 24......... probably in my maternity leave before the sproglet arrives
|
melody yarns
|
Apparently you can count current WIPs as long as they are finished in 2009, so you could be well on the way if you only have a buttonband to finish for example
I'm aiming to knit 12 bigger garments like sweaters or cardies and 12 smaller items like socks, dishcloths or fingerless mitts and hats to even things up a bit
You in then Terri? Nevis?
|

|
Well this year I have done 19 things, which includes several pairs of fetchings...and Easter egg warmers so I might bo in for this one. I have 2 big things that are WIP's so it'll be a good incentive to get those finished.
Go on...i'm in.

My count is 25 for this year with one more thing to finish off so im off to check on rav

Um, having a think about that one, can I count the innocent hats if so then 24 is easily achievable
I was planning on making a few bigger items this year so perhaps I'll just watch the rest of you.

Yep, I'm in!!!!

I don't think there is the slightest chance of my managing even twelve things in 2009, sadly. I'd love to do 12 sweaters, but I don't get enough time to knit. I think it takes me about 6 weeks to do a sweater. I will watch and admire!

I might just slide back into this one....
I've just finished making up my project bags for all the things on my 2009 list - and I've got 18 things Ok some of those are a bit cheaty 'cos they're OTN at the mo (and part of my finishalong). BUT. It's only a small step from 18 to 24. And TBH, if I only managed the 18 I'd be thrilled to bits cos there's some biggish things on there!
I love the enthusiasm of a new year

Not cheating at all cos you can use WIPs that are finished in 2009 as part of your 24 - according to the rules on Rav!

I have 4 things on needles at present which should give me a start lol

I am at the heel of a second sock so might be finishing that tomorrow as the first of my 24 if I dont manage to get it done tonight, its a size 1 so not too long a foot to do.

Well, I've started my first two of twenty four!!!!
My first sock started at about half past midnight, and I also cast on for the back of this too, although that was before midnight, whilst DH and I were watching the aviator.
The back is finished, I've been up for ages this morning, a bump does very little for helping you sleep But its good for my productivity

Well I finished a pair of socks today, only had from the heel of the second sock to do though, so thats one thing done. I also sorted out my knitting corner and got the yarn pattern and needles together for my next project which I am going to cast on tonight.
I put my WIP all together too, have 4 projects on the go but 2 are lace shawls and ones an aran afghan so still a lot of work to do on them.

I have been planning out a few things I want to make using stash - I hope to do most of my 24 from stash if possible - and have started the first one. It is the Neckdown Wrap Cardi by Knitting Pure & Simple. I want to finish a topdown thing this year so this is a good thing to start with I am making it with some darkish grey Jaeger MM Aran from stash and am going to edge it with some pale blue Rowan Kid Classic like this one here
I am also going to set myself another challenge of sticking with the same project till I've finished it That might be a hard thing for me to do but I will try.
On the to-do list to make from stash this year are Mr Greenjeans, Wicked and possibly a FLS.

I don't know if I'll reach 24 but I made 14 things last year and 9 of them were big things and I didn't finish anything else big after May I'm hoping to include quite a few WIPs and it's really just to get me to focus on finishing rather than starting

you can find it just under the Stashaloging forum (I think) on the main board.

Thought I might list out the things I'm planning on doing this year. Not to show off or anything ( ) but just so I've got the list in a permanent place....
So well established wips first:
- Sirdar hoodie
- Landgirls waistcoat
- Lacy Kerchief scarf
- Plain cardi
- Fingerless gloves
- Chunky cardi/jacket
Also OTN
- Trainer monkeys
- 2 other pairs of monkeys
- Apres surf
- Pair Spring Forward
- Nativity set
To be started
- Twist n Shout
- Long waistcoat (Sirdar Easy Family book)
- Cassidy or Basic Chic hoodie
- Cassidy cap with a
- Matching pair of Fetching
And of the to be started I've only got to get yarn for Cassidy
As well as those my sister's already asked for a chunky-ish winter jacket, and I always give a couple of pairs of socks for Chrimbo to her and my niece.
So, ATM that's a grand total of..... 20
I'm sure it's achievable

Wow...looking like a long list there LJ...some of them are on my list as well, the long line waistcoat, twist and shout and maybe even cassidy.
|

Mmmm - it does look like a long list
But some of them have already KAL threads on here - which helps. And we can keep each other company on the ones we've got in common too.
I thought the long line waistcoat would be my first new one to do. The only problem I think I'll have is ending up with a load of wips and not getting anything finished.....
I'm really hoping this will give me the push I need to get some stuff done this year. D'you think anyone would notice if I sneaked a couple of cross-stitch projects in too?

Well, I've got 16 projects lined up so far, and more than enough yarn for 8 more , so I'm in.
OTN
1. Thistle Shawl
2. Stashbusting scarf
Hibernating - to be done after the above
3. Christening gown - lots of it knitted, but LOADS of finishing to be done
4. Seascape in laceweight mohair - has been a bit naughty, so needs some concentration - I've not got on to the main pattern yet.
5. DH's pure wool jumper - back done, halfway through the front.
Planned
6. Twist & Shout - Purple / Blue
7. Mystique Jumper - Purple
8. Tierra Jumper - Beige or soft teal
9. Bergere de France Cabled jumper - Beige or soft teal
10. Bolero in Blur and a sparkly DK
11. Bertie - leftover KSH
12. Another stashbusting scarf
13. Table cloth - haven't decided on the pattern yet
14. Socks for me
15. Oddball blanket - possibly mitred squares
16. Possibly another Twist & Shout in Cream, if I like the first one, or another jacket.
I'll decide the rest later, they may have to be some smaller items, I have 2.5 lace items and 7 garments in this list already
Oh well, fingers crossed and back to the shawl.

think i will join in with this too, i currently have 2 large WIPs, will give me incentive to finish them.
i havent counted up how many items i have knitted last year but i am sure its more than 24, i know in the week before xmas i made 5 scarfs and also at the beginning of the year i was knitting for a couple of yarn companies, also knitted and crochet for my new nephew too so must have made about 30 items.
knitting mojo isnt quite what it was at the moment but i am sure i will get back to it.

Debs, can I offer a little incentive
Those of you who manage 24 ( or 12 ) in 2009 will have their names put into the "hat" and I will ask a mod to pick a name out and make a little knitterly something as a reward. Perhaps a FCS? Perhps not, who knows, but definitely a knitterly little something.

Thank goodness it isn't 24 sweaters! With my jubblies I'd be lucky to get two done in a year! I might manage this...I did 26 FOs last year and have yarn for quite a few projects squirrelled away...not stash mind, as I'm not a stasher...bought for a specific project knowing I'd be knitting it within a few months! Well...that's my excuse anyway!

Hokely cokely... here's my WIPs to finish as part of the Finish-along and the 24 in 2009 challenge:
a)February Lady Sweater - almost complete
b) Blaze cardigan/jacket to come out of hibernation for spring
c) Henrietta cardigan also to be emerging from hibernation very soon
d) Cap sleeved cardie in Pioneer. Not sure whether or not to frog this WIP as I'm totally underwhelmed by it
To Knit:
a) A hat for my friend Becky to go with her fingerless mitts
That's it! I have a list on Excel but I change it to suit my mood so I'm not commiting to anything in writing now. After all, I have 12 months to decide!

WIPS:
Juliaca cardigan from Mirasol #1
Baby jacket from Sirdar book
Baby hoodie from SK (Nov 05)

It is a nice pattern DC - funny getting my head round doing it this way - I don't think 3-dimensionally I've just divided for the sleeves, threaded it onto spare yarn and tried on and it seems to fit!! Carrying on with the body tomorrow There were some very long rows back there
PS the pattern was from GK - they have a few KPS patterns tho not all - haven't found anywhere else in the UK doing them.

Good to hear it is working out well Those long long rows before the sleeves are separated are a bit tedious, I have to agree!

Hmmm not sure about the wrap cardi now - it is coming out a bit big and looking through the pics on Rav it looks a tad unflattering on some people I don't think the style is going to do me any favours & I think I might do something a bit more fitted for my first top down attempt like Wicked/Mr Greenjeans or the FLS.

I am doing a WIP now
The problem is I don't knit many small things and 24 large items for me seems a bit unrealistic and I don't want to be selecting what I knit on the basis of whether I can make 24 things in a year I made 9 big things and 3 pairs of socks last year so would like to do better than that. So am using it to focus on finishing and seeing how I get on I think I will have a combination of WIPs and new things.
|

I'm with you on this Ali, most of my projects are bigger items but I'd like to go for 12 larger items and 12 smaller items to make up the 24. I can't knit 24 small items because tht's not my way of working either! Like you I would rather choose to knit what I want than be forced into knitting things just to get the 24 done.

I can see a new button coming on here....
I think the whole idea of 'completing' 24 things is good for getting things out of the way too (I really need to tink back several rows of a certain shawl and then maybe i'd get it finished).
I'm in a good position for making little things as well as big things.
So here's the definitelys for the list
Green Jumper (wip)
Earflap Hat #2 (sis - wip)
Earflap Hat #3 (Millie - wip)
Dad's socks (wip)
Terttu Shawl (wip)
Feb Lady Sweater
Shalom Cardigan
Monkey Socks (sis - promised )
Surface
Amused
The rest of list will not be planned and hopefully will just happen alongside the bigger stuff as this is usually how I work anyway. Millie is going to be getting a few more bits this year (so her Mam says ). There's a couple of new babies due this year too, so there will be littlies to make for aswell.
I'm also going to take the opportunity in the summer months to keep adding to the final count by getting my 'C' list in order....small things like hats and scarves are just about bearable in the heat (all of 70degs if we're lucky ).
I think should be able to make it....i'm off to count how well I did last year...
