125g ?I think n's sock club yarn with the extra little skein is a really super idea.
When thinking about Cazzie's thread for other patterns using sock yarn it occurred to me that there are quite often times when having that extra bit of yarn makes all the difference.
I wonder, does anyone do 125g skeins of hand-dyed yarn for individual purchase as opposed to part of a club?

I bought a skein of yarn from Sophies Toes on Etsy and she specifically dyed me a 125g skein to co-ordinate but other than that I haven't seen any on the web. Sorry

Posh Yarn and Hipknits sock yarns sometimes come in larger skeins - its purely random though, as I suppose it depends on what they have left/extra when they are dyeing. In fact, Kerrie at Hipknits has some 120g skeins of Desdemona (like PY Emily) in at the moment. I ordered some the other day and it came really quickly.
If you order STR Mediumweight from Blue Moon it comes in 5.5 oz (around 155g) but then you also need to be careful with the yardage.
I'm sure a lot of indie dyers around would be happy to do a slightly larger skein for you as most are really accommodating

My merino sock yarn comes in cones most of the time so I skein it myself and could do 125gr skeins if requested. Most people find that 100gr is more than enough for a pair of socks, but if anyone wants more I'm happy to oblige. Maybe I'll start doing some as a test run to see if there is a demand for slightly larger skeins.

Some of the US manufacturers who still work in ounces have 4oz skeins which come up at 113g.

I know... we have to blame metrication for that one.

My merino sock yarn also comes in cones from now on, so I can do any weight required too. Will try a few 125g skeins in next batch....

I would be interested in the odd 125g skein or ones that come in around 500 yards - thinking shoulder shawls like FC etc.

Tomorrow's update will include a new selection of solids and multi-toned solids, I could split these. Not sure I'd want to do 125g as you'd end up paying standard postage on 125g of £1.25. This reflects the work involved in winding and dividing and packing additional small skeins. As with all things, time ends up costing money!
I will be offering half skein options though. The postage is still £1.25 per item, but 150g gives you 2 pairs of socks and by adding a bright solid the second pair could be quite zippy... purple and orange, bright blue and lime.
A pretty variegated yarn could become something quite eye-popping by adding really bright solid to the mix.
