100g plus a bitSometimes I offer matching skeins. A 100g variegated and a smaller 50g skein of solid.
In fact this was on my list for next week's shop update.
So in the interests of research here's a poll.
If I offer this on a regular basis is it better to have 100g plus 25g, enough for toes and heels.... or 100g plus 50g which allows a bit more scope but which would cost more, because there's more yarn.
One lot of postage, either way because it counts as one item.
I'm not going to tell you what I think, or why.
I will say that splitting a 100g variegated AS WELL AS a splitting a solid skein starts to put the price up because of the time factor in winding it. So 50g variegated and 25 or 50g of solid isn't an option, it's too much winding without me putting the price up which I don't want to do.

reasons... just because that although i love my y skeins in the sock club i have yet to use one for a couple of reasons.
1. they are cute
2. i worry that there won't be enough and i am too lazy to swatch and measure etc
3. they are cute
4.

I like two 100g skeins, one variagated and one solid contrast....... Like I get in the club. Although I suppose I would like enough just for toes and heels in the contrast, would that be 25????

My vote is for 100g + 25g. Just enough for contrasting heels and toes.
Why?
I have two pairs of socks in progress (one pair for me and one for Katie) and it would be nice to have a small amount of wool in contrasting colour for heels and toes as I think they look more interesting and fun! Or even to add some stripes etc...
I don't have much sock yarn (3 balls to be exact) and none of them work together so buying a 100g skein plus the 25g would be ideal. But if sock knitters have a fairly healthy sock yarn stash then the 25g might not be attractive..... IMO
Is 100g plus 50g enough for adding some stripes?

I voted for 100g + 50g but I'm not 100% sure - not much help am I? I only ever knit socks with small cuff, not anklets but I only do around 25 rows for the cuff bit as I cant stand long cuffs. I always end up with quite a bit of yarn left over so if I bought the 100g + 50g I would be able to easily knit two pairs of socks out of it, although I could probably get two pairs out of 125g but would always worry I would run out until I tested it. OK, I'm waffling now so off to get coffee

I can get two pairs easily from 150g, I just need to be creative with the second pair.
Or I can get socks and gloves.
This is sock yarn with 420m/100g remember, if it was merino then I'd have less yardage (but probably bigger needles and fewer stitches).
