Thinking about buying one, and was wondering if anyone had one and what they thought of it.  Are they worth it etc etc  Laughing

I don't have an adjustable tailors dummy but do have a display mannequin.  Milly is her name.  She's nearly my shape just I've a fatter waist!!

I've got one & although I sew a lot, it's been in the loft/shed for years and I never use it.

I might get it out if I was to make a fitted dress or tailored jacket, but as I usually make tops & trousers for myself, I don't miss it.

When I made my wedding dress etc it was invaluable.

Thinking about it - as I'm now *several* sizes bigger, I bet it doesn't adjust big enough to fit me now!!! Embarassed

Have you seen the various "ductape" dress forms around that you can make yourself? One here.

I bought one via a shop on ebay, it's good but with hindsight I'd probably have paid an extra £20 over the 99.99 to get the version with the wooden stand etc. Mine is fine for display and does adjust but the neck fitment is a bit feeble!

Mine is a long loan from a friend. She has sort of given it to me because she doesn't have room for it any more, on the understanding that should she need to borrow it at all she can. This arrangement suits us both Very Happy

Although she is adjustable, really I only use her for display purposes. And you know this lot, all they want is modelled shots Wink

I had always wanted one, so when DH spotted a second hand one in the sewing shop near where he worked, he bought her for me for Valentines day quite a few years ago (lasted a long longer than flowers  Laughing ).

I love having her in my sewing room makes it look the business  Laughing - but Doris has never been used for her original purpose.   Embarassed  she just stands there looking useful and is currently wearing my pi shawl.

Thank you for your help  Very Happy   I have decided to try making a duct tape 'mould' of my body and see how I get on. If I use it a lot then I know it will be worth investing in a proper dummy IYSWIM  Laughing

Be interested to see how it turns out Janice - I've thought about getting OH to help me with making one - but I think I'm too scared to have a lifesize model of me to look at LOL  Embarassed
