Would anyone be interested in doing this later in the year?
Lot of seeds are viable for longer than a year, there are a few notable exceptions, but it would be free so a few duds wouldn't matter.
I suppose I am thinking that if we swapped at the end of the growing season THIS year, but before the start of seed buying for next, we might have a little starter kit before we all start ogling the seed catalogues.
I have participated in one of these before, and what we did was that Person One made up a parcel, and sent it to Person Two, who took some of whatever they fancied... ten exotic beans, a pinch of carrot seed, a couple of knobbly artichoke seeds etc, added their own, and sent it to the next person. If you start it early enough then you can get two "rounds" in before the planting season starts.
I'd probably say that seeds must be no more than one year old, but we could work out the details later.
The only cost is the postage. It would need to be first class to keep it moving, and we'd need an agreement that you would send the parcel on within 3 days or something like that so that it didn't get "stuck" somewhere.
Everyone would have to agree to providing the group with their name and address, so perhaps we'd need to have a "must have been a participating member of the forum for at least a month" rule or something.
What do you think?
I was thinking as I was writing this, that it says something about this place that we feel able to plan events for next year, a sort of permanence has crept in...

PS. a few flower seeds might be nice too...

I would definitely be up for this. I have absolutely loads of seeds that I really don't have room to plant and/or the need for such a huge crop even if I did.

Definitely same here - got loads left from this year and feel bad because even if I grow the same stuff next year there'll be too many! Great idea. _________________ Claire

Brilliant idea I have often complained about the fact that seed companies insit on giving us 300 cabbage seeds when we might only want 10 _________________ ravelry id : janice61

Oh count me in, i am always complaining that they supply too many seeds in a packet for us small plot gardeners. I only need one or two courgette plants a year and they sell them in packets of 20 (and more)
that's TEN YEARS WORTH!!! _________________

Yep, they've not even lasted a year!
Not one courgette has come up this year, and the patty pans that Seahorse sent me have failed to show too now
Do you think it could be too hot in the greenhouse for them or something? _________________

Given that our allotment is under water since Friday - has anyone got any rice seeds. I have the paddy field already : (
