I have admited defeat on my first ones for the time being, so have instead made a start on some more for my dad.
It is a opal yarn, not sure of the colourway, looking at the ball I thought it was tiger but it has knitted up totally different and I didn't keep the ball band. I've used the opal pattern but have put a short row heel in instead.

Looking good, Cathie! And nice yarn too.
You can always return to the others later. Sometimes it helps to go back with fresh eyes. _________________ My Blog: Put a Sock in it |

Quick update on my socks, I finsihed the first one yesterday, and started the second one today. I made a bit of a mistake again, and the stripes don't match up, I didn't notice that the yarn has a long repeat so managed to cast the second on on half way through a repeat rather than at the start.
So I have continued knitting it, and made it slightly shorter in the leg, so I am hoping to get 2 pairs out of the ball, if not when I cast on for the third one I will definatly match one of them up.

Looking good! I think I've made socks in that, looks very much like Opal Elemente
I agree with Ali, you might find you're more inspired about the first pair once these are done. Shouldn't be long now, you're bombing along with them _________________

I have finally finsihed these and have ended up with 3 non matching sock. For some reason 2 match to the heel then it is all down hill from there. Thinking mabe I have had a mis dyed lot of yarn.
This is the second pair of socks I am making for my dad, just the one more to go,

That has come out very, well, interestingly hasn't it I think it looks good! But some yarns do that, I personally never think of it as a bad think, to me it makes the socks look unique and homemade, shows that you cared enough to make the socks yourself.
Yay for you getting them finished! Hope your Dad likes them _________________

Thanks,
It does look okay, the tops match perfectly, I can't get them to sit right to do a proper picture , I think i need to get a set of sock blockers.
Thing is now what to do with the third sock, I don't know what the yarn is to get another ball
